Cancer Support Community Central Texas Announces Upcoming Event

AUSTIN, Texas - Cancer Support Community Central Texas announced it will hold the first 20Colors20hours fundraiser, an indoor cycling event, to raise money for its organization.

20Colors20Hours will be held on Feb. 7, 2014, at 7 p.m. until Feb. 8, 2014, at 3 p.m. at PureRyde Indoor Cycling in downtown Austin. CSCCT co-founders will use the money they collect towards their goal of opening a physical location.

"For a group that is not 'open' yet, we are doing a lot," CEO and co-founder Terry Holmes said. "In 2012, we have assisted over 200 people. This year we expect about 300 people."

Holmes said they wanted to do something different from a run or walk. CSCCT thought of the idea from a similar event that challenged its riders to 24 hours of cycling.

"We liked the idea of the cycling part, but thought it would be more special to designate an hour for each color," Holmes said. "So we thought 20 hours for the 20 colors."

The event will involve teams of up to 20 members, who will be challenged to ride on stationary bikes, relay-style, during the entire event. Individuals or groups are welcomed to participate, and must raise at least $250 to ride. Each hour will represent a different color of cancer, along with an informational session to create awareness.

"People are selecting the hours they want to ride to represent a certain color based on a number of different stories," Holmes said. "We would also like at least 20 sponsors join and represent a color too."

CSCCT hopes to raise up to $100,000, that will bring it closer to its financial goal of opening a physical location. Right now, CSCCT gains many of its clients through referrals by their doctors. A physical location will remove the middle man and allow the organization reach more people.

Cancer Support Community Central Texas was created in 2011 after being licensed by Cancer Support Community, the national organization, as an affiliate. CSCCT offers services to anyone affected by cancer, from financial advise to emotional support, and ensure they are empowered with knowledge about their diseases. CSCCT creates a way for cancer patients to fight the disease with the support they need rather than alone.
